The Subject - The FDA approval of Lybrel, a birth control pill that stops periods.
The Show - Fox News’s Your World With Neil Cavuto
The Debaters -
Mary Alice Carr, NARAL
Leslee Unruh, National Abstinence Clearinghouse.

(Note - the medication in question has nothing to do with abortion. It will not stop women from having children when they decide, and can help women who suffer from from painful periods)

Birth Control Is A ‘Pesticide’ That Will Make Women Just ‘Like Men’

Snippets from the transcript:

"CARR: Sure, 98% of American women at some point in their lives use contraception. This is not something to disagree on. Leslie’s the one whose way out there on the side on this. Ask anyone.

UNRUH: Oh oh oh [Unintelligible]. Let me tell you about way out there. Way out there is playing G-d, Way out there is wanting us, women, who are feminine and have fertility and it’s something to celebrate, wanting us to be like men, c’mon!

(snip)

CARR: It doesn’t do anything other than any other birth control pill does, except help women that have maybe menstrual periods that cause them a lot of pain, they have endometriosis, they have a lot of issues where their period every month is actually a problem for them. This actually would help them to actually avoid that pain.

UNRUH: Lies, lies, lies, lies, and more lies.

CAVUTO: Why are you saying that Leslie?

UNRUH: Planned Parenthood and NARAL have been out there trying to control women for many years. And fertility is a gift, it’s a wonderful thing. We need to celebrate our fertility, there are so many women that want to have children and the last thing they need is Big Pharma, Big Pharma, pesticides being put into our bodies.

CARR: And they can when they want to have those children, Leslie!

(snip)

CARR: Absolutely. What you’re saying here is actually–you’re going to make me crazy on here–what we’re saying is let’s reduce unintended pregnancy. Let’s reduce teen pregnancy. Let’s reduce the abortion rate in this country.

UNRUH: Big Pharma, here we go again, attack on children and families and on women. I want more babies. More babies. We love babies."

I believe Leslie/Leslee is the posterchild for "Unclear On The Concept"(ion)

Holy frothing wackbat. The 'more babies' thing just sounds like she eats them or something like. *shudder*

I'm reminded of woman in the Nutri-Grain commercial where everyone seems like they're hopped up on PCP because they've either tried a Nutri-Grain bar, or have had exposure to someone who has.

"Yeah...babies everywhere! BABIES!"

...because stupid people vote, so if more stupid people have more babies we'll vote more for stupid ideas...

The NARAL rep couldn't have asked for a better opponent to have this discussion with. It's hilarious that people like this are out there - on national TV.

Dude, this isn't even a new concept - depo provera ALSO stops menstruation. It just has evil nasty side-effects for a lot of people (like severe depression, mood swings, killing of sex drive, and bleeding for months straight after going off of it - all symptoms friends of mine who have tried it experienced). So it's good for them to have another option.

Gad I hate people like that crazy woman. (Not Carr, obviously.) I've no need or desire to suppress my periods, but ask me what I'll be getting from Planned Parenthood before I leave for Iraq, if I get deployed.

I LOVE it when these right-to-lie bitches make reproductive choices for the rest of us.
