Observation from yesterday....

As I said, I felt it was important enough to not just vote, but set a good example for Little Bit. Which is why she went to the polls with me yesterday morning.

When I picked her up from school, we dropped off coffee for [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo, who was working the polls yesterday, then had ice cream and I attempted to break down the election into chunks that a bright 7 year old would understand.

During the evening, I kept her up to date with votes, telling her what they meant. And before she went to bed, I was able to tell her that it looked like Sen. Obama had won.

I then took a break to read a bedtime story, (the humbug has been drafted to help Milo and Tock rescue the princesses), and before she fell asleep, Little Bit said "I want to be president when I grow up, so I can help people".

And I realized that that wish is closer to her now than it would have been for a woman my age, when SHE was the same age Little Bit is now.

Doubtless by tomorrow she'll want to be a rock star, a firefighter, or the occupation du jour. But indeed, she can be anything she wants to be if she's willing to aim high and work to achieve it.
