Wrong. Just wrong

Houston eyes cameras at apartment complexes

"Houston's police chief on Wednesday proposed placing surveillance cameras in apartment complexes, downtown streets, shopping malls and even private homes to fight crime during a shortage of police officers.

"I know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?" Chief Harold Hurtt told reporters Wednesday at a regular briefing."

I dont see what is wrong with it

espically if it makes you think twice about commiting a crime.

And people who are having issues with crime should have them, if for no other reason than to protect thier property.

Remember, Big Brother is always watching, this is just more obvious than what our government does

well, such a sight would be wasted on the common folk :-)

The article is either badly worded, or the chief didn't bother to clarify the "outside" of the home. Outside, while still annoying, isn't unreasonable as long as the property owner agrees to it and notices are posted.

Inside the home, which is what the article seems to imply, is another matter entirely.

Don't see what's wrong with it?

OK, then they can put a camera in your bedroom, too :-). You don't mind the local cops watching, do you?

Not inside but it says of the property, that does nto mean inside

inside would never fly

I think people sould have cameras OUTSIDE thier homes

Well, you may be happy living in 1984's Oceania, the rest of us like our Constitutional rights.

It looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

The government is ALREADY doing it

you just dont see it

Its called Satellites

guess what they can see a blade of grass from space.

If the governement wants to watch you they can and will.

If they what to know what you are doing in your house, thats what the IR is for.

I would rather know about it than not

So instead of complaining about it, or trying to do something about it, you just want to make it easier for them? "I know they're already watching me, so it's OK for them to find better ways to watch"?

Like I said, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Sorry, the cameras do NOT go in the people's houses like he wants. That's a clear violation of the constitution, among other things.

Outside in public places and apartment complexes, with CCTV notices. Inside the residences, not a chance in hell.

I don't care if I have "nothing to worry about", I don't want the cops watching as I walk around the house, go to the bathroom, or cuddle up with my s/o inside my own residence.

Public areas, I can MAYBE see, but private homes?

[identity profile] morgan-gw.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And to Chief Hurtt I'd say, "You want cameras in private homes, fine -- we start with yours. The feed goes to the mayor's office and the local paper. That shouldn't be a problem, after all, you don't have anything to hide, now, do you?"

And stream out on the internet.

He has nothing to hide now, does he??

If I'm not doing anything wrong, why are you pointing a camera at me?

[identity profile] cormac.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. If I never hear "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear" or one of its variants again, it will be too soon.

There's a link in that last post, BTW. On my browser, the CSS on this template doesn't show links in text very clearly (shrugs).
