There are times I hate the human race....

Since I know people who were, are, and continue to be hurt by the effects of Hurricaine Katrina, this ticks me off...

And it wasn't so long ago that FEMA knew it's ass from a hole in the ground.

FEMA funds spent on divorce, sex change

"FEMA also could not establish that 750 debit cards worth $1.5 million even went to Katrina victims, the auditors said.
Among the items purchased with the cards:
_an all-inclusive, one-week Caribbean vacation in the Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic.
_five season tickets to New Orleans Saints professional football games.
_adult erotica products in Houston and "Girls Gone Wild" videos in Santa Monica, Calif.
_Dom Perignon champagne and other alcoholic beverages in San Antonio.
_a divorce lawyer's services in Houston."

And meanwhile, people *trying* to rebuild in those areas are getting shafted by their insurance, even when they *had* the recommended level of insurance on their properties.......

Girls Gone Wild ? Really? I mean if you are going to embezell and squander money there have to be better choices then girls gone wild...

Certainly wouldn't have been my choice, that's for sure. :-)

It's sort of a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation for FEMA. If they err on the side of giving out the cards, they're open to this kind of abuse and the only way they can catch it's after the fact. OTOH if they err on the side of caution, they get griped at for making people who've been flooded out jump through hoops and wait to get the money they desperately need.

As far as the insurance, agreed on the shafting. Unfortunately the people who could call the insurance companies to task seem to be owned by the insurance companies (among other corporate interests).
