Random Bemusement...

I was thinking about the article I posted yesterday about the Department of Homeland Security using Sci-Fi writers, (Niven, Pournelle, Bear, among others) as a think tank to help defend against terrorists.

Then I thought of a couple SF writers I would like to see on that (Bujold, Weber, maybe Ringo)

And some I wouldn't want anywhere NEAR the idea (Stirling, maybe not Ringo)

Then my brain went "Hmmm, what about fantasy writers?"

And I got the immediate mental image of Department of Homeland Security policies and senarios......written by Robert Jordan.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(runs and hides in the corner)

Hmmm. They'd never end, they'd be impossible to follow, each volume would be the size of the Manhattan yellow pages ... wait a minute, that's pretty much government documents now. Maybe he's already writing for them?

I WILL NOT create 10 separate tickets for "The Assistant Undersecretary is requesting a skirt to be procured so she can smooth it while tugging at her braid and folding her arms under her breasts."

Or worse yet, L. Ron Hubbard ... he'd have turned the Dept. into the next big religion.

Thinking about it some more, they really need someone who can think in terms of conspiracy, etc. Wouldn't they be better off with Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton?
