patgund: Knotwork (Star Wars - Look sir - Llamas)

Saturday......

Saturday I'm going to be doing a combined 501st / Rebel Legion troop at Crossroads Mall in Bellevue.

Basically the National Endowment for the Arts is sponsoring The Big Read, which is a programme to "restore reading to the center of American culture"

As part of this, we're going to be helping the King County Library branch there give away books, as well as promoting reading in general. (the discussion is on “Fahrenheit 451” and one of the things they are focusing on is dystopian societies and science fiction literature.)

It's noon to 4pm. Afterwards, I may go to the social that [livejournal.com profile] nwsfs is running.

On one hand, the TIE outfit is the more eye catching. On the other hand, I haven't had a chance to wear my newest Jedi robes yet.

Also going to bring my Stormtrooper armor, to see which parts are salvagable and what parts are not. I'm thinking of turning it to sandtrooper armor, depending on what parts are salvagable and what parts aren't.

Sunday looks like [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo and I will be going to the Puyallup fair. (don't ask me to pronounce "Puyallup")

Puyallup == poo-yahl-up. Less difficult than it looks. :-)

I had always pronounced it pyoo all up.. It's how my husband pronounces it, and he was born here. YMMV o course

I agree with this one, and I've lived in Pierce County for fourteen years (four of which I think it took for me to get Puyallup's pronunciation right [g]).

Have a good time, and eat a scone. And an onion burger.

*chuckle* Don't like onions.

Had scones though :-)

Aren't you going to that Weird Al thing? I thought you were.

[identity profile] patgund.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. They didn't need any TI's

[identity profile] beki.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks :(

Hi! I found you through a post that you made on the starwars community, and I was wondering if you would be interested in a certain small event. I've been trying to contact a few different garrisons of the 501st for a few weeks now, but haven't gotten any response. I'm getting married on September 22nd at Hollly Lane Gardens on Bainbridge Island from 4:00 to 4:30pm, and i was wondering if you knew ANYONE, even just a few people, who would be willing on such short notice to don their armor and provide my wedding service with the security that only the Empire can provide? I know the 501st generally doesn't do weddings (and admittidly that may be why I haven't gotten any responses), but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. My fiancee originally wanted to get married at Celebration IV, but for some reason I turned down that idea. She was really disappointed, and I regret doing that, as that would have been lots of fun. My fiancee has done most of the planning, and I wanted to give her a surprise that would make it all worthwhile to her. I would not be able to feed anyone or provide transportation, as I have already spent much on the wedding itself, but they would not have to stay long. I would be grateful if you'd be able to provide any leads, and if that's not possible I totally understand. Hope to hear from you!

Did you ask on the Garrison Titan or Alpha Base boards?? Or FanForce??

If not, let me know and I'll give you the URLs to post. No promises though

hmm, well I emailed garrison titan, but i didn't even think to post on the boards! the other two i've never even heard of...
if you could give me the URLs, that would be great! thank you so much.

Any suggestions on where to start with Stormtrooper armour? I keep staring at these ideas and going: Wow! Except I don't know where to begin.
(note: can sculpt. Am willing to work with exotic plastics and have various pieces of equipment to work with same. Cannot afford old suits from movies or the like for basis *sigh*. Am considering embedding some electronics as my bro (a Fur) and I both do electronics.

(are there any good ref pictures for Jedi robes? Good as in "can make costume from" as opposed to what I've found which is "can look nice in pictures". My Beduin outfit's only a short step removed from Kenobi's outfit and have a Con coming up so.... :)

btw: *wavies hi* and glad you've been enjoying the Northeast US and the company of its fine and wonderful citizenry. Cheers!

Check out Badlands Garrison

http://www.badlands.ca/

I trooped up at PNE in Vancouver a few weeks ago. They're a good group of people.

Thank you - shall do.
I don't think they had folks in my area last time I looked... could be wrong. (I'm not very bright sometimes)
They look like exactly the right folks. Ta!

Why do I find it cognatively dissonant to dress as movie characters to a reading promotion? Most kids would rather just watch the movie than read the books. I hope the group is bringing some Star Wars books or something to contribute to the reading part of it all.

It was 250 copies of various banned books. Supposed to take four hours, we ran out in two
