And a second one.....

.....are we going to go for the trifeca? Another "traditional family" candidate who's a deadbeat dad.....this one in St. Louis.

"Family Values" Candidate Is Deadbeat Dad

"A St. Louis politician, whose ads promoting his campaign for the state house describe him as a "devoted father," owes more than $7,000 past due child support payments.

The past due support came to light last week, when the mother of the children wrote letters to reporters, complaining about the lack of payment, and asking something be done.

The politician is Talibdin El-Amin, currently a ward committeeman in the City of St. Louis, but is running for the Missouri House of Representatives in the 57th District.

His wife, Yaphett El-Amin, currently holds that spot, but hopes to move up to a Missouri Senate seat, and he hopes to fill her old job. "

Abandoned House, Rayyan, Qatar

(Crossposted to my LJ and [livejournal.com profile] abandonedplaces)

I took some good shots of two abandoned houses in the Rayyan district of Doha, Qatar today.

The first house is the older adobe over brick or concrete construction. These usually have rope-bound poles for support, with a platted wood celing. It always strikes me as interesting how little out of place they would look in the US Southwest or even the desert parts of rural Mexico. I suspect the desert has it's own dictates on construction.

Pictures behind cut )

I have pictures of a second house I'll post tomorrow. Also I found an "abandoned house" that wasn't as abandoned as one may think, it had been turned into a de-facto labor camp for the various third and fourth worlders that get hired here cheaply for constuction and labour.
