......tigers that is.

The following links show a tiger that is the result of massive inbreeding to try and create the "white" tigers that so many people ooh and ahh over.

Yes, I realize that he looks silly at first.....until you realize just *why* he looks the way he does.

And the story as to *why* this type of inbreeding is going on and why they have no conservation value at all, (as well as the genetics behind the trait)

I'm glad they quoted Ron Tilson about this subject. I volunteered at the Minnesota Zoo for about 10 years & white tigers are a real trigger for him to get angry... ^_^

That poor tiger looks like a stuffed toy not the predator tigers were meant to be. Sheesh! No wonder people don't have any respect for tigers in captivity. An inbreeding program just to keep tigers white is plain stupid especially when it causes that many genetic defects and problems. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Blessed Be, Angelique

Passed onto certain friends, thank you. I look at that tiger's face and think "So, the excuse for short-muzzled dog breeding is, excuse me, what?"

To me, this sheds some light on the Roy Horn incident. Poor Montecore probably didn't have two brain cells to rub together, forgot his training and just tried to get offstage asap, bringing Roy with him. Sigh.

Linebreeding is bad no matter what the species. There are reasons for societal tabu's on incest.. go figure...

Gah!

They've managed to breed a tiger and a pug together. (One wonders if the tiger then ate her mate, insect-like.)

On a serious note, in-breeding to this extent should be made illegal for animals as well as humans. With a possible exception for lab animals, and I'd want to see some hefty justification for it there.

Not that I'm normally a proponent for increasing the nosiness of an ever-more invasive government . . .
