Well, since "Kushiel's Avatar" is due out right around now, I decided to re-read "Kushiel's Dart" and "Kushiel's Chosen" again.

"Dart" is, as usual, a wonderfully thoughful treat, even at the times that it's eroticism can be rather disturbing. "Chosen", however, actually plays out more as a classical historical / fantasy novel, and the erotic scenes, while a treat, are both widely scattered and rather vanilla in comparison to "Dart". Still, it goes into the details of the Night Court a bit better.

One of the complaints I heard about "Dart" was that it seemed to encourage the concept of child prostitution, (though, with the Night Court, it's more of a sacred or temple prostitution) . "Chosen" actually shows that there's more than one way that a member of the Night Court can earn their marque as an adept. Though sacred sexuality is still their normal stock in trade.

Still, there's some interesting concepts explored in the series, and the rather unqiue take on theology may actually be more unsettling for some than the sexuality aspect.

Looking forward to "Kushiel's Avatar".

I keep meaning to read those; I've been hearing good things about them for a while now.

I have simply GOT to get a copy of "Kushiel's Avatar". I've corrupted Renee. She likes the first two books VERY well. LOL Blessed Be, Angelique

It's a pretty good series, though there can be some disturbing mental images at times. BTW, the author is doing a book signing at MG on April 29th @ 7:00

If Patrick approved, and you're nearby, you could have the first one from me - I could never get into it, got creeped out by the kids-for-sadists stuff.

Sorry, Patrick, I hate not to read books from friends, but just couldn't get into this one.

Unfortunally I'm Bay Area not San Diego... Thanks for the offer... I'll be in the area for May War...

Eh, it happens. Personally, I didn't see the "kids-for-sadists" stuff you did, (actually, I thought it was fairly clear about the people actually taking clients in the Night Court houses being adults - or at least what would have been adult for that time period.)

Second book has a lovely scene with an adept of Gentain House, which are all mystics and seers, so not every house goes the way of Valerian or Mandrake. (And to be honest, some of the scenes in the first book were somewhat over the top for my tastes as well. The rest of the book made up for it though.)

Actually, I had hestitated sending you that book because I thought you might get creeped out by the tattooing. Sorry if it bugged you though - I'll have to find another book to make it up to you. :-)
