*Chuckle* If things had gone differently 200-something years ago, would Colonial children be burning effigies of George Washington in July 4th bonfires and asking for a "Penny for the Georgie"??

Date: 2007-11-06 09:51 am (UTC)If the American Revolution hadn't succeeded when it did, the British government would have had to spend a lot of money and a lot of manpower to keep the Colonies under control. From several books that I have read, the Britain didn't lose the war per se, but rather ceased to supply and fund their armies, which came to the same conclusion.
And while our Founding Fathers got us our freedom, they couldn't keep those oppresive taxes away. Sigh. But at least we have taxation with representation ...
