While at Bookstar last Sunday, Menolly and I happened across a line of children's books called "Little Lit". Aimed at the 5-and-up crowd, they're hardcover, in comic-book format. The first is a collection of fairy tales, the second is called. "Strange Stories for Strange Children".

There was a story in the second one that caught both of our attention. It's called "The Little House That Ran Away From Home". It's about a little house that is sad because it's full of ugly noises. So it runs away. This little dog-like critter named Huff, (who collects happy noises), hears the little house sobbing, and befriends it. Together, they go off to find a place with happy noises where they can be happy together.

Well, they find a place, but someone already lives there, another dog-like critter named Puff that collects those smoke lines that go up into the sky.

Anyway, Huff and Puff fall in love, and then the house says to both of them "Let's get married!". Which they do, and the last panel shows a happy little house and a happy Huff and Puff, all three looking at a yard full of little dog-like critter children and baby houses playing and chasing one another.

Both Menolly and I were looking at each other afterwards with a mutual "we did not just read that" look. :-)
