Here I am

Home, sometimes, is where the laptop is. In this case, in a Motel 6 in Newbury Park, CA. I'm here for a friend's wedding saturday.

Have I mentioned I hate weddings???

The drive up wasn't too bad, (except for leaving SD way too late.) It was when I got to the stretch of 101 between Malibu Canyon Road and Newbury Park things got....interesting. Because it had been many, many years since I drove that road, and there were a myrid of bittersweet, painful memories along the way.

Driving to the old Southen Ren Faire site in Agoura every weekend for a month. Loves that have been misplaced in the mists of time. (Mary? 'Gina? Where are you.....) Driving that road almost everyday while attending the year long Moorpark College Equine Ranch Management class. Lost dreams, lost futures along this road.

All gone, all lost in time, heartsick and soulsick, old wounds remembering again.

Picked up a book along the way up here, a picture history, both past and present, of Route 66. Figure it might keep me distracted.

Growl. I don't think the a/c works in this room. Annoyance.

Those who have gone before, Grissom, White, Chaffee, Komarov,
Dobrovolsky, Volkov, Patsayev, Scobee, Smith, McNair, Onizuka, Resnick,
Jarvis and McAuliffe.

They are today are welcoming 7 new people to their hall of
heroes:

Husband, McCool, Anderson, Chawla, Brown, Clark, and Ramon.

May their names be honored, and never forgotten.

Seems approprate today:

"We pray for one last landing
On the globe that gave us birth,
Let us rest our eyes on the fleecy skies,
And the cool, green hills of Earth."

~Robert Heinlein
