Oookay.....
Jun. 1st, 2005 11:59 amAccording to a board of conservatives, (including Phyllis Schlafly), this list is the "Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries"
http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=7591
Now, I'll agree with them on books like "The Communist Manifesto" and "Mein Kampf", (no. 1 and 2 respectfully) And certainly I have no use for "Quotations from Chairman Mao" (#3) and "Das Kapital" (#6).
However, I think they're off base with "The Kinsey Report" (#4). And their "Honorable Mentions" section also mentions Darwin's "Origin of the Species" and "Descent of Man", as well as Simone de Beauvoir's "Second Sex" and Freud's "Introduction to Psychoanalysis" (which is more quant by today's standards.
(sigh) Silly people

Jun. 1st, 2005 12:01 pmPrinting press spells out bugs' behaviour
"AROUND 1452 the first operational printing press was created, followed in 1799 by lithographic printing. Now, these inventions are reflected in the world's first bacterial printing press.
The press will print live bacteria onto solid surfaces in precise patterns, a technique that may help explain how bacteria influence each other spatially. Understanding these relationships will help find ways of thwarting their attacks and using them to clean up pollutants."
