RIP, Route 66
Jun. 27th, 2005 07:10 pmOn this date 20 years ago, the last signed portion of the famous "Mother Road", aka US Route 66, was decommissioned.

From what I remember, US 66 was shortened out of California in 1974, so it's departure from this state was even earlier than that.

Bother. I still haven't driven the Barstow to Needles to the Arizona border portion of US 66. May not have time before I leave.
