For the batting team in Cricket, the aim is to score as many runs as possible. A run is scored when both batsmen successfully move to the opposite ends of the pitch. Runs are also scored if the batsmen propels the ball to the edge of the playing area (six runs if the ball reaches the boundary without touching the ground, otherwise four runs).

For the bowling team, the aim is to get each batsman out (wicket, or dismissal). The most direct way is for the bowler to bowl the ball in such a way that it evades the batsman's guard and hits the stumps, dislodging the bails. While the batsmen are attempting a run, the fielders may attempt to knock the bails off either set of stumps with the ball before the batsman nearer to that set of stumps has reached the crease.

Once out, a batsman is replaced by the next batsman in the team's lineup. The innings of the batting team will end when the 10th batsman is given out, because must be two batsmen on the field. When this happens, the team is all out. (In Limited overs cricket the innings end either when the batting team is all out or the predetermined number of overs are bowled). At the end of an innings, the two teams exchange roles, the fielding team becoming the batting team and vice versa.

NZ trying to breed four-nippled sheep

"New Zealand scientists are trying to breed sheep with four nipples instead of two to cater to a growing tendency of ewes to have multiple births.

More ewes are having triplets, but one of the lambs usually struggles to survive because it cannot get enough milk from its mother, the Otago Daily Times reported today.

"A triplet, if he is the runt of the litter, is usually doomed," George Davis, a scientist with the state agricultural organisation AgResearch, told the paper. "If one triplet is light, his two litter mates can bully him out."

Davis said that 10 years ago, the average New Zealand ewe had one lamb, while today 100 ewes produced 120 lambs between them.

New Zealand is one of the world's biggest producers and exporters of sheep meat."

Ten years ago, I was living in Escondido. I was doing free-lance computer work, including web design and development. And not doing very well at it either

I had put in a bid and designed a prototype site for the San Diego Polo Club, but a group of web developers undercut my bid and got the contract.

A few months later, they were all dead, having committed suicide on March 26, 1997, along with the rest of the Heaven's Gate UFO cult.

Now San Diego seems to have a fair number of UFO cults. Unarius and the Lemurian Fellowship for example. So one more didn't really register on the radar.

Still, when I first heard about their mass suicide, my mind boggled. I remember the media swarm, the comments. It was very odd when I realized who it was - a mix of sadness and "see, the polo club should have gone with my bid!". (I remember being tempted to contact the polo club to reoffer, but decided I didn't want to be a vulture.

It seems weird that so much time has passed.

Honestly, I don't think MRE's are THAT bad.....

US army food... just add urine

"The US military has devised a way to ensure its troops in battle need never go hungry - with dried food that can be rehydrated using dirty water or urine.

The meal comes in a pouch that filters out 99.9% of most toxins, says New Scientist magazine.

The aim is to reduce the amount of water soldiers need to carry.

The firm behind it says soldiers should only use urine as last resort - as the membrane can not filter out urea, which in the long term causes kidney damage.

"The pouch - containing chicken and rice - relies on osmosis to filter the water or urine," the New Scientist Magazine reported."
