Okay, when Paris Hilton ended up in the pokey, Avenue Q's "Schadenfreude" kept running though my head.

Now it's Sen. Larry Craig's career that's stalled and in the crapper, and "If You Were Gay" is the song on my internal iTunes list.

*snork*

On a semi-serious note, Sen. David Vitter has admitted he frequented the services of the "DC Madame". Which means he broke the law too, and *admitted* he did. I wonder why he's not being thrown under the GOP bus like Sen. Craig is, (Sen. Vitter even spoke out against prositution at the same time he was using the services of a prositiute, making him as much of a hypocrite as Sen. Craig.)

Could it be any or all the following reasons??

1) Sen. Craig comes from a red state with a GOP governor. It's easy to sacrifice him, because there's not a chance the governor will select anything other than another Republican. Sen. Vitter comes from a state with a Democratic governor. (Mind you, Sen. Vitter once said Clinton should step down because of HIS affair, which makes his hypocritcy worse).

2) Yeah, both Senators cheated on their spouses and lied about it. But Sen. Vitter at least did it with a *woman*, making it easier to forgive than Sen. Craig's bathroom trysts with (gasp!) other men.....

3) While Vitter *admitted* to using a prositutes services, he wasn't arrested for it. Craig was arrested his actions.

The GOP sure has had a lot of sex-related scandals of late, many of them same-sex. Wonder what the next one will be, (Doesn't Jeff Gannon have a book out soon? Wonder what a White House "reporter" / male prositute will be telling about......)

Something else. This isn't a "gay vs. straight" thing. It is quite possible that Sen. Craig really doesn't see himself as being gay. A majority of closeted men who partake of such activities (the so called "tearoom trade") don't see themselves or don't self-identify as gay. I really think you have to be in a major amount of self-denial to have such a belief, but so it goes

I'm in Coos Bay, Oregon. Getting lunch before driving south some more.

I'm doing the 101 coastal route for this trip. I *may* deside to do US 395 for the return trip back to Washington. I haven't desided yet.

I do want to spend some social time while down in SD, but bear in mind that Little Bit is going to get the lion's share of my free time. :-)

So far this trip I've driven by the World's Largest wooden building, (Hangar B at the Tillamook Air Museum), the World's Smallest Harbor (Depoe Harbor), and the World's Smallest river (D River in Lincoln City).

The things you see off the interstates.....

In Ukiah, California. Seems weird being back in California, though this is a portion of the state I've never been to before.

Avenue of the Giants is........is.........wow. Just wow.

The coastal region in Oregon and down to Arcata California is really lovely.

I didn't get as far as I wanted tonight night. Not only was I starting to get down to the end of my reserves, (I think I can safely say I'm only good for 12 hours of long distance driving), but I picked up a nail in a back tyre. Bother. On the emergency tyre until I can get it fixed tomorrow. Then farther south, hopefully ending up in SD tomorrow.

Bed right now. I is a tired Gund.

*smile* Funny thought, one year ago today I came back to San Diego from Doha. What an interesting year........
