Note to *some* Seattle Bicyclists.....
Jul. 31st, 2008 08:54 amOkay, so you use your bike to commute. Good for you!
However, you need to keep something in mind.
A bicycle is a vehicle. When one is on the road, one has to follow the rules that apply to that vehicle.
When I am driving, it's not unusual to find a batch of you on the road from Queen Anne to South Lake Union, or on Dexter, taking up an entire lane of traffic PLUS the bike lane. You may think it's cool to force the cars to go around you, but it's not. It's stupid, it's dangerous, it's ignoring the rules, and someone is gonna get hurt.
Which brings me to the next subject. I usually take the bus into work. Which means walking from Aurora and Denny to work, crossing Dexter.
Part of operating a vehicle on the road is, again, following the traffic rules. That doesn't mean blowing across red lights on Denny, and it doesn't mean trying to run down pedestrians trying to cross the street at a crosswalk
So, to the rude and uncaring cyclists. As a driver, I think you suck. As a pedestrian, I think you suck. And you're giving a really bad name to those bicyclists that ARE following the rules.
