(Evil chuckle) Well, problem child just called back. And is obvious she didn't bother listening to my voice mail, because she starts in on "how dare (I) harass her on her cell phone." I then tell her, before she can hang up on me again, that she better listen to what I'm about to tell her or my next call will be to the SD police.

I then explain to her that the laptop she has is not lab property. It is, in fact, my personal laptop. And, in the voicemail I left her, I gave her 2 hours from 3pm to get it back to me. It is now almost 4pm. There's a pause, and then she goes off on "Well, how the hell was she suppose to know, since it wasn't marked as mine." I told her that the lab ones are marked, and there's no policy that says I have to mark my property accordingly, though I do have my name and ID number in the case, which will prove to the police it's mine

(She, of course, feels no shame at removing it from my desk. Her attitude is how this will inconvience her.)

She then gets more upset. Turns out she just pasted Oceanside on the way up to LA, and is now on the part of I-5 going though Camp Pendleton. About an hour from work. So she asked me if she could borrow it for the weekend and return it monday.

I said that she has one hour to place it back into my hands at the institute, or I will file charges. In other words, no, she can't ask permission after the fact. She got even more upset and started to complain that the traffic is bad and she'll get to LA late and there's no way she can get it back to me. I told her she should have thought of that before she took my property.

End result, she's to make a U-turn at Las Pulgas road and head back down to SD, traffic and all. And the lab manager has already given me a letter to give her that says she'll need to go though the checkout procedure with me before she is allowed to borrow anything from the lab ever again. And I've told her I don't want her leaving until we *both* go over that laptop and make sure it's in the same condition.

Her problem.
