Pismo rebuilds
Oct. 9th, 2003 03:36 pmProject: To get six Powerbook G3 "Pismo" laptops rebuilt by May, 2004. This is to be done using parts scavanged or traded for from old laptops here in the institute, with some upgraded parts purchased.
Constraints: (other than money). Two should have Japanese keyboards. Two should have either a high end G3 or a G4 processor. One should have either a DVD/CD-R drive or a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive. All should have at least 20 GB hard drives. 4 should have Airport cards.
Status:
Pismo #1 - 500 Mhz G3, Currently lacking 20 GB or better hard drive, Airport Card. Otherwise functional.
Pismo #2 - (Which will eventually be mine) 400 Mhz G3, Currently lacking 20 GB or better hard drive, Airport Card. Plans for this one: Maybe a Japanese keyboard. DVD/CD-R or DVD-RW/CD-RW drive, either 900 Mhz G3 or 550 Mhz G4 processor, largest laptop hard drive possible. Otherwise functional.
Pismo #3 - Currently lacking processor card, hard drive, battery, DVD drive, Display, AC Adapter 50% complete
Pismo #4 - Currently lacking Top pan, AC/Sound Card, Japanese Keyboard, Logic board, power board processor card, hard drive, battery, DVD drive, Display, AC Adapter. 25% complete
Pismo #5 - Have Japanese Keyboard, no other parts.
Pismo #6 - No parts available yet.
Main reason I'm doing this, (other than to provide a couple of friends, and Little Bit's two older siblings with Laptops for school and home), is to teach myself how to repair and rebuild laptops. It's a skill that should look good on a resume.
