Harsh. Unfortunately true a large %age of the time (*cough* Dirk *cough*). But you can write something just as harsh about any other human activity and SCAdians at least know they're playing a game.
Well, most of them.
As far as the insanity of picking leaders by hitting each other with sticks, it still got a better quality of decision makers than I worked for at TRW.
The scary thing is that Dirk is *actually* getting good reviews for this reign. Maybe he learned something. Maybe her majesty is keeping him on a very short leash, (something else I've heard). Proof of the pudding is going to be Estrella this year - we'll see if he's reformed or goes back to being "the jerk"
And granted. It seems like the first thing Fans/SCAians/Gamers/Pagans/Faire folk/(blank) do when they start to undergo some sembelance of organization is to replicate as much as possible High School politics and cliques. Gak.

As far as I can tell all humans promptly sort themselves into cliques and hierarchies in any situation they wind up in. I suspect this is part of the hardware, not the software. The main mitigating factor seems to be requiring some actual accomplishment from the ones on top--so having the SCA stick-ocracy avoids the even worse high school manipulator-ocracy.
