patgundBack from Anime Expo. Before I go to bed, figured I'd post pictures
Since the local branch of the 501st legion was "trooping" in Star Wars garb to raise money for the City of Hope, I figured I'd give Comic Con Costume Projects #1 and #2 a test run, and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

Costume Project #1 was the TIE Pilot garb. Some work with the cooling system on the helmet still needs to be done.
Costume Project #2 was the Jedi robes. The outer robe and belt are still not done. However, the rest is, (some tweaks on the under tunic before Comic Con though.
Tell me what you all think. :-)

Date: 2004-07-06 02:16 pm (UTC)I think the difference is attitude. I've been in the SCA too long not to think of any sort of costume as "garb", and make it so that it will last for a while. With both the TIE and the Jedi outfits, my attitude was not trying to exactly reproduce what you saw on the screen, but trying to make them look real. The Jedi robes in particular show this attitude - they're not an exact replica of what you would have seen a Jedi wear in the movies - they're what *I* would have worn if I was a Jedi.
The TIE outfit also shows some touches like this. A belt mounted first aid kit. Supplies in the pockets. A rank badge and pilot wings on the flight suit, (but under the armor, where you normally won't see them). A single Rebel Alliance "kill" sticker on the helmet, (and one to be added each time I do this costume). Little touches intended not to make it exactly like the movie, but more real.
Thanks a lot for the complements. Hopefully I'll have better pictures soon, or even give you'all a chance to see them at a con.

Date: 2004-07-06 02:22 pm (UTC)I like both outfits, but for different reasons. The TIE outfit is flashy, and kids really like it for the same reason they like the Stormtroopers. The Jedi is a bit more sedate and functional, and lends itself to longer wearing time.
The main problem with the TIE outfit is heating and lack of vision in the helmet. The main problem with the Jedi outfit is finding a place to hide the removable EL blade for the saber. I may need to make a back holder to "hide" the blade when it's not attached to the saber hilt.

Date: 2004-07-07 08:45 am (UTC)My um, costuming, IF you can call it that, just makes me look like a steampunk naughty librarian that has hidden, unexpected weapons and that probably wears VERY naughty underthings if she is wearing them at all.
Then there is the steampunk priestess look...
As for everyday, well, I cannot help it if I look like a pixie that divebomed a pirate that hit a 1914 librarian who smashed into a Asatru priestess from 2049 and kept on going... ;)
