Anime Expo - Comments
Jul. 6th, 2004 12:34 pmWell, went to Anime Expo over the weekend. Mostly working fund-raising with the 501st, but I got a chance to spend time at the con proper as well.
Since one of Little Bit's godsparents is on staff for Anime Expo, her mum and half-sister were comped in. And Little Bit got in free as a kid in tow under my badge.
Friday I didn't see much off. Four hours in the TIE outfit, (with a failing fan system), caused me to be so heat exhusted and tired that I drove to where I was staying as soon as I was done.
Saturday was the tourist day, with Little Bit at her second (and largest) convention to date. Thankfully I had backup this time though.
Good way to get a lot of swag in the dealers room - have a cute 2 and a half year old in tow.
Was limited in funds this con - brake repairs to my car. Which was a pity, there were four things I would have adored.
The Kikada and Kikada 01 DVD's.
The toy version of the Escaflowne armor, (transforms into Dragon mode)
The Principality of Zeon flag, (MS Gundam)
The MS Gundam and Zeon-themed USB keychain drives.
Oh well......
Sunday, due to the failure of the fan system in my TIE outfit, I did Jedi robes instead. Lots of fun, raised a good chunk of change for City of Hope. Was thinking that the EL blade system in my light saber would also make a kick-ass beam saber if I ever wanted to do a MS Gundam costume. :-)
Little Bit had fun with the con, though she got over-stimmed and had a toddler meltdown sunday evening. Not surprising, and she came out of it well enough to ask if she could go back Monday. (which we didn't) Still had fun though, and massively outcuted people.
While I was fund-raising with the 501st on sunday, Little Bit kept dragging her mum back to where we were, so she could watch me pose with the other people in costume. According to her mum, she kept saying "That's my daddy!" and "My daddy does Star Wars!". The only real problem was when I posed with a gentleman doing a AT-AT driver outfit. The person taking the picture wanted us to look like we were fighting. When Little Bit saw me with my saber lit and drawn, and the AT-AT driver with a blaster pointed towards me, she started walking towards the AT-AT driver going "No no no no! You no hurt my daddy!!" Once she was told that we were just posing for pictures, she said "Oh, okay, and went back to watching.".
I may need to make her a set of padawan robes. Or an Imperial Officers Uniform........
Since this was my first anime-only convention, this was my first major experience with some of the harder-core members of anime fandom. Most of which were cool, and some were downright scary. (Case in point - Man-Faye. Shudder)
All in all, a fair bit of fun.

Seems like the on-line vendors that sell the flag are sold out. Bother. Would like to find one.

Date: 2004-07-07 06:13 am (UTC)Second Con, huh? Any chance that CCI will be her third (and largest), or are we gonna just have to make special arrangements for Little Bit and Duckling to interface and take over the world?
