""I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam."

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), speaking on ABC News regarding an attack ad against Kerry by the anti-Kerry group "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth"

I'd say my favouriet quote from McCain still is his comment as to why he rejected both Bush and Kerry as a VP nominee: "As far as me and the vice presidency is concerned ... I spent a number of years in a North Vietnamese prison camp in the dark and (was) fed scraps, and I don't know why I would want to do that all over again,"

But it's nice to see him rejecting the attempts to smear Kerry's war record. I voted for McCain in the 2000 primary, and he's a Republican I'd vote for again.

Oh, and Media Matters has an interesting article about "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth". The group's founder has been attacking Kerry since the Nixon era, and none of the members actually served with Kerry in Vietnam.

McCain is the one Republican I'd consider voting for. This further proves why.

Some think that McCain is gearing up to fight for the Republican nomination in 2008 against Dick Cheney. Right now, though, he just wants to keep his seat on the Senate.

Problem is that the NeoCon's dislike McCain. Unless the Republican Party can escape the NeoCons and the Religious Right, (Neither of which like McCain), he doesn't have a chance. Falwell is already pushing Jeb Bush in 2008, and Cheney's health may not be that good by then, (not to mention the fact that Cheney isn't very popular on his own.)

McCain appeals to true conservatives and moderate Republicans. Neither of which is in control of the GOP anymore.

Falwell endorsing anybody is almost a sure-fire way for them to fail [grin].

I wouldn't have anything against McCain getting the republican ticket in '08. If he could get Forbes as his VP, now THERE would be a ticket! Unfortunately, after two unsuccesful attempts to get the republican nomination, Forbes is probably too burned out now to run again.

I was a Forbes supporter in 1996 and 2000, back when a competent businessman is what this country needed the most. -- I supported H. Ross Perot back in 1992 before the campaign trail made him lose his marbles. Both of them had solid economic platforms.
