Last night I had dinner at an interesting little place in Doha. Namely Ric's Kountry Kitchen on as Ras Abu Abboud steet near downtown Doha.

The first of a two-store chain, (the second is in Bahrain), specializing in American food, specifically food from the deep south. Want fried okra? They have it. Biscuits and Gravy? They have it. No catfish or hush puppies though :-( And I will assume the bacon and sausage is beef rather than pork, since pork is illegal here, (and I don't think they're porklegging either)

Had scrambled eggs, hash browns, texas toast and biscuits and gravy. All of which were fairly good, about Denny's level of quality. I want to go back and try the sausage biscuits and gravy though. And their burgers look good too. Not to mention that they supposely have the best turkey gumbo in the Gulf.

The interior was pretty much standard US coffee shop, the only unusual touches was a lot of pictures of ships and the like from the oil industry, and a blortload of Calgary Stampede posters, with an Alberta provential flag hanging next to the Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, and Mississippi state flags. (Turns out the owners are a married couple, he's from Louisiana, she's from Alberta). There were a couple of touches from the UK as well, mostly HP brown sauce and the fact that the "cajun fish and chips" included mushy peas.

Overall, I can see where this can be a hangout for local expats wanting a touch of home. Down the road is a UK-style chip shop. I may have to try that soon.

Probably the ONLY turkey gumbo in the Gulf.

Hope it keeps working well for you. If it turns out you can get to a good fish n chips place and I can't, I shall be jealous.

(Where in Louisiana is the guy from?)

My hobbit side is really enjoying the food details; I'm glad you're finding some downhome [sort of] goodness.
