Combination Comic Con and Belly Dance Festival anyone??
Belly dancers, comics draw crowd at fest
"A strange, strange combination. But oddly enough, it worked.
Sunday's "Carnival of Stars" belly dance and comic book festival attracted an eclectic crowd of dancers young and old, vendors, artists, people in ornate costumes and a 7-year-old girl with an enormous pet snake draped around her neck.
All of the above seemed normal at such an unorthodox event.
People were intrigued when they first heard about the combination of comics and dancers, said Alexandria, a longtime belly dance teacher who organized this second-annual festival. It has been at Centennial Hall both years.
"They're surprised that I'm a belly dance teacher and a comic book artist," Alexandria said. The Berkeley woman declined to give her last name. "When you put it all together, it's a really fun, cultural, artistic experience."
