*Sigh* Can we say "freaking idiots" boys and girls??

U.S. pundit: Canada a 'retarded cousin'

"Last week, MSNBC host Tucker Carlson, a well-known conservative pundit, let loose with a string of anti-Canada rants.

"Anybody with any ambition at all, or intelligence, has left Canada and is now living in New York," he said.

"Canada is a sweet country. It is like your retarded cousin you see at Thanksgiving and sort of pat him on the head. You know, he's nice but you don't take him seriously. That's Canada."

Carlson also said it's pointless to tell Canada to stop criticizing the United States.

"It only eggs them on. Canada is essentially a stalker, stalking the United States, right? Canada has little pictures of us in its bedroom, right?""

WTF??

Only thing I can think of is this is the pundit sound machine bitching that Canada is refusing to march in lockstep with the current US administration. Or maybe they just watched "South Park - The Movie" one too many times

Tucker Carlson, is a hack and political wannabe who thinks his comments have some sway over the Neo-cons in the administration. Mr. Carlson should be given an all expenses paid (one-way) trip to Ottawa. I believe they need a practice hockey puck with ears.

I have Canadian friends and associates in the SCA and on LJ there. Cannucks are probably the most mellow, easy going people on the face of the planet, but this kind of abuse is starting to give them reason to bristle. King George and his minions are picking too many fights while asserting Imperial Privilage.

Yeah, same here. Including former ladylove and dear friend in BC. And comments like this make me livid.

People in the US seem to have forgotten that US policy during the late 1700's and most (if not all) of the 1800's was to eventually co-opt Canada into the US. (Indeed, Confederation was in part a reaction to such) Canada hasn't forgotten it - and has a deep worry about such, (twits like Stephen Harper aside)

On a side note, there was talk event as late as 1998 of several Canadian provinces shifting to become US States. This was in part due to the possibility of Quebec breaking away. The thought was the western provinces would likely petition for eventual statehood due to neglect by Ottawa and because most of their business activities with the western US states. The Maritime provinces, were openly talking about petitioning because a soveriegn Quebec would have physically separated them from the rest of Canada.

Isn't it amazing what a few years can do to a relationship?
