Jan. 7th, 2006 12:50 pmThe phrase "eating your own dogfood" seems not to have come to Palm's mind.
I just got email about their new "Treo™ 700w smartphone"
Which runs Windows Mobile.
This strikes me as really stupid

Date: 2006-01-07 07:11 pm (UTC)I read an OpEd piece the other day that leads me to understand why. PalmOS is not capable of multi-tasking. Windows Mobile is. When you start doing things with the phone that are not 'just talking', this becomes important very quickly. Illustration - PalmOS implements a TCP/IP stack in application space, rather than OS space, which severely limits its utility. The OpEd claims that (because of corporate return-taking factors that the Palm team had no control over) PalmOS spent six or seven years with no substantial development - so now it has to play catch-up in a number of critical areas relating to networking, and all these are low-level OS functions. He doesn't think they can do it - apparently PalmOS got sold off to some Asian company recently, maybe they'll be able to get the development into it fast enough.
