Batch of Firefly fans have a rather ambitious goal - that of raising the money needed ($25 million) to fund an entire season of new episodes.

Browncoats Rise Again

"Phase I
500,000 fans donate $25 = 12 episodes. This will prove to channels like FOX and Sci-Fi that there is an audience for the series and that the fans can get what they want. But we will not stop there.

Phase II
500,000 fans donate $25 = 12 additional episodes. If we can raise the money for 24 episodes, we will change the way media and its consumers relate forever!"

I suspect I can cough up at least $25 to see more episodes in the 'verse........

Except I think they tried to do this for Enterprise, too, and failed. It may be, these days, that Firefly has more adherents.

They were also trying to bribe Paramont when it was already a done deal, (especially since B&B were pretty much determined to knife the baby.) And as good as Coto did in the final season, Enterprise could never shake the suckitude of the previous seasons.

Whereas Whedon has said he'll do episodes if someone gives him the money.

After where he went in the movie, I couldn't possibly care less about where he wants to go from here.

Roland suggests we (the two of us, not necessarily fandom at large) treat Serenity like Galactica 1980 -- not really part of continuity ;-).

Well, he said that Serenity was what he had planned for season 2. My only real complaint was that it felt rushed (grumble killed off two of my favourite characters grumble) and I felt like he "Buffyied" River. But I don't really have a problem with it, rather enjoyed it. What, may I ask, did you both not like?

You pretty much covered it: River the Vampi..., er, Reever Slayer was a small issue. The fact that the word "Wash" has entered our vocabulary as a verb meaning "to gratuitously kill off a character just because you can" should cover the main reason :-). Especially since this was the first Whedon show I've watched, and I understand this isn't unusual for him (though Wash was more gratuitous than most). Not something I want in my entertainment -- real life is nasty enough, thanks.

Yes, I know that it could theoretically be interesting to explore how Zoe's character deals with life after Wash, but that's not something I have any interest in watching.

I'm not saying "No, don't make any more," 'cause it other people want it that's no skin off'n my nose :-). It's just that we have no interest in promoting, contributing to, or watching a post-Serenity version on the 'Verse. Now, if he makes it a prequel (I heard somewhere that Alan Tudyk might be in the series, if it happens), that's another story, but I'll reserve judgment.

Dunno. I admit I was ticked off by Wash's death as well, (and 99% of the people I know were). I was under the impression that Tudyk wanted out of his three-film contract because he's involved with "Spamalot" in Las Vegas.

DUnno. The only ones that do seem to know ain't telling.

Interesting concept, but from what I understand, Joss is finished with Firefly and has said he will not go back to it. Firefly without Joss is not really Firefly.

Quote directly from Joss:

"="As long as I was able to service the characters with integrity and had enough money so that I wasn't hampered, then I would love to return Serenity to TV. I love that universe; it continues and those characters live on. There could be a series, there could be a miniseries, there could be all sorts of things. I'm not ruling anything out. I'll let it simmer for a while and see if anyone calls." Empire Movie News, Jan 9, 2006

Well, that's a bit of a change from the last thing he said about it. Yay! Count me in for $50.

I'd want to see the names of the people behind it before donating money.

Okay, that's a bit more reassuring. The "Who Are We?" link wasn't there when I first looked at it.
