.......but this is damn funny to me. The only downside I see to it is that KSA "Justice" is going to throw the book at her, unless they decide to just send her home and forget about the whole thing.
Maid cuts off employer's penis
"Riyadh - Surgeons have reattached the penis of a Saudi man who paid the price for trying to have sex with his Filipina maid and she attacked him with a knife, said a hospital source on Monday.
A spokesperson at Riyadh's Takhassusi Hospital said: "This is a sophisticated operation. You are dealing with an organ in a difficult area and you want to try to return it to its efficiency."
Earlier this month it was reported that the maid removed her employer's manhood after he tried to molest her in the middle of the night as his wife was sleeping. The maid is in police custody.
The spokesperson said: "It's one of the rare cases... but they did it (the operation) last week and it went smoothly.
"The hospital has done this kind of operation before, but only after people had car accidents.""

My personal take is that, knowing she would be punished for the bobbitectomy anyway, she should have shoved it down the garbage disposal.

Modern Islamic countries apparently have forgotten that the Quran and Mohammed both hold men and women to be equal, not men superior to women.

Funny how we can promote "democracy" (read capitalism) in the third world but we can't promote social equality.

Date: 2006-05-09 03:37 pm (UTC)A lot of those Fillipina maids sign contracts that they will not have sex before marriage, will not get pregnant, and will not marry a Saudi.
A lot of them get pregnant. And give birth to children that look a lot like their employers. And what happens to these women?
They're cited for breaking the contract, violating Saudi law (in having sex before marriage), and are deported.
Even if they *do* bring rape charges up, well, according to the form of Sha'ria law practiced in KSA, rape can only be proven if their are two witnesses. If those witnesses aren't there, the man walks scot free, (and the woman is deported)
It's not a "blame the victim" mentality, it's flat out *punish* the victim.
I admit, the way women are treated here in Qatar set my teeth on edge. But it's almost light years better than women are treated in KSA. Expat women there - especially Indians and Fillipinas, are chattel.
Two Witnesses?
Date: 2006-05-09 03:44 pm (UTC)And no one bother's with paternal testing to verify the victim's case? What kinda zoo is that place?
Re: Two Witnesses?
Date: 2006-05-09 03:57 pm (UTC)As for the TCN's (third coutry nationals), it gets even better. The TCN's also have to surrender their passports when they enter KSA to their employers of employment agent. This means that for the duration of their "contract" they can't leave. Plus the contracts are front loaded so they have to (frequently) pay off travel expenses, hiring fees and "visa service charges" - before they ever earn a wage. They are treated little better than slaves.
Speaking of which, KSA still quietly permits slavery. The last time I was in Rhiyad, I could go to the old brass sauk and buy a set of well used, well oiled and fully functional leg irons (sold openly) for a few dollars. Buy one or buy a hundred. At one point I was (sadly) aware of where the slave auction was held in the city, because it was noted as strictly off limits to service personnel with vehicles.

You surrender your passport for 1-3 months so that the Ministry of the Interior can process your visa, drivers licence, health card, etc. Even then, when you get it back, you're not home free. You still need a letter from your employer in order to leave. You can buy a ticket and everything, but if that letter isn't with you, you won't even be allowed much past the front of the airport.
Most Western employers, (such as mine) give their employees a multiple entry/exit form that is stapled to your passport and allows you to come and go as you wish for one year. Those are the lucky ones.
Like I said, Qatar is light years better than KSA. But has a long way to go.....
