Abandoned Souk, Doha, Qatar #1
May. 16th, 2006 09:49 pm(Crossposted to my LJ and
abandonedplaces)
The Qatari government has the tendancy to treat urban renewal in a "here, we're buying your store, here's your money, now leave" state. Most of these store fronts in these souks along Al Rayyan road were busy and active a month ago - until the demolition notices showed up. Now they're gutted and are gapping open.
This is the first batch of them. I'll post the second batch tomorrow.

Passageway to back stores, Souk Akkaz

View from the spiral staircase, Souk Akkaz, into the office space of a closed store

The roof of Souk Akkaz

Gutted interior (both floors) of a restaurant, Souk Akkaz

Former SyrianAir travel office, Souk Akkaz

Stairway, Former SyrianAir travel office, Souk Akkaz

2nd floor window, Former SyrianAir travel office, Souk Akkaz

Abandoned teletype machine, Former SyrianAir travel office, Souk Akkaz. Damn, I wish I could take this thing back to the states with me.....

Former decorating business, Souk Akkaz

Interior of a former Chinese restaurant. Glass everywhere, and an unbelievable smell.....

Another stripped restaurant in the souks

No idea what this business space used to be, but you can see the stairway to the upper offices, a very common feature here.
