After having read about the on-line vote fraud(with the majority of the votes going to a dog in Florida, funny thing that....) in the 2006 Sonoma-Marin "Ugly Dog" contest, I went to go take a look at some of the latest entries.

Okay, personal opinion? I hope all these dogs are sterilized. Not because they're ugly, but because most of the poor things are NOT healthy!
And I will note how many of these poor things are "pure bred". At least one is acknowledged to come out of a "puppy mill", and several show some fairly severe genetic abnormalities.
Case in point, "Victoria", from San Diego (and an "Operation Greyhound" rescuee, though not as a racetrack dog) :
" Who knew that a 4 lbs., four-year-old purebred Italian Greyhound with a deformity caused by hydrocephalus, an amputated tail, blind in the right eye, seizures, a deformed face, arched back, a healed broken leg and walking in a goofy way could take top honors at the contest with a face and body only a mother could love."
