I know I've been in the SCA in Caid too long. I saw a passing reference on a webpage to the usenet group alt.swingers.california, and my brain tried to read it as alt.swingers.calafia.

Damm. You got all the good encampments. :-)

Don't be so sure of that...

Remember who some of those encampments included?

I presume we're talking the 10th letter of the alphabet, and not the 11th. ?? :-)

Indeed. 10th, not 11th.

11th and I never "got together" in that way (thanking personally-venerated Deities for that one).

There was also, once-upon-a-War, in our encampment, another personage (she of the fabled "Hey-let's-pour-Goldschlager-on-this-fire-I-built-under-this-tree" incident) who had the audacity to knock on a tent I was "occupied" in to inquire when it would be her turn (this without asking either of my spice if she could be next...and, for that matter, without asking me).

In some ways, moving from Calafia was a very smart thing to do.

Yeah, same here. Not for want of her trying. Still get calls from her. Last I heard, she's working a casino in Reno with her current husband-of-the-year.

Meow??? Do I know this person?

Yep. I don't play in the People's Republic of Calafia anymore, and I'm trying to find a job outside of the area. 10th letter of the alphabet managed to completely trash my reputation in this barony while she was cozing up to the Baron and Baroness. (Including rewriting posts I had made on the SCA Poly list and then showing the rewritten ones to the Baron and Baroness. She also did that with my former employer when I got laid off and she was still working there, in order to try and get me in trouble there. The admin of that list finally kicked her off that list and banned her from returning because of this.)

However, I'm wanted elsewhere in the kingdom, as well as with my Westie friends in the Mists, so their loss.

Oy...now I'm doubly-glad I've moved. ;)

You might; she's now part of the autocracy (thus proving that anyone can be an autocrat), and her 'dane name begins with that fabled 10th letter of the alphabet.

She was going to move to Idaho, last I heard.

I found it ironic.

Re: the *other* 10th: I'm surprised she hasn't gone out of her way to make trouble for us at the Wars.

But then, and most likely because of the people we tend to camp near/with/around, any trouble she's likely to attempt to stir up for us would be less-than-effective. Our real friends know the score.

(And yes, this includes you.)

We need to get out more in the Mists, ourselves...I mean, the yearly pilgrimage is fun and all, but it'd be a Good Thing for us to "support our Local SCA" a bit more often.

Part of it is, of course, that we miss the camaraderie that we had in Calafia...not enough of our friends are SCAdian up here, and it's a drag to camp by one's selves at an event. But in time...
