Interesting.......

Army to switch from green to blue uniforms

"The U.S. Army plans to eliminate the green uniform worn by its soldiers for more than 100 years and switch back to traditional blue worn by those fighting the Revolutionary War.

Everyday-wear uniforms will include a dark blue jacket, light blue trousers and gray shirt, the Army said. Formal occasions will require a white shirt; soldiers' dress uniforms are already blue.

Soldiers will begin wearing the new garb by the middle of next year and all soldiers must have it by the end of 2011, the Army said."

But then how will I be able to tell the Blue Suiters (USAF) from the Green Suiters (USA)? I think they just wanted to be more like the Air Force.

According to [personal profile] desertvixen, who is a regular Army Staff Sergeant, the "blues" aren't really blue, they're black. They're already used as the dress uniforms, which the green Class As aren't.

My contract ends in early 2011, so whether or not I have to buy them depends on whether or not I re-up.

I like how the article describes the green uniforms as having been worn for more than 100 years..... and that the green uniforms were adopted in 1954.

1902 is when they switched to the green uniform. In 1954, they switched to a different green uniform, the one they are currently using.

At least that is according the the artilce http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060616/news_1n16army.html

which also has a pic of the uniform

Painting the gun a different color won't make it shoot any better.

Giving a pogue a typewriter doesn't make its opinion any more worthwhile, either.

It's just making the Dress Blues into the "new" Class-As and phasing out the Class-As. Get grips, please. While I was perfectly happy with green, and would have honestly preferred steel grey-and-black, this isn't that drastic a thing.

I'll miss the combat patch, though. I liked being all decked out.
