I want to try them when they open.....(and I miss Yoshinoya)

McOctopus McDumplings May Be Coming To U.S.

"If Morio Sase has his way, hungry teenagers around the world will soon be snacking on something more exotic than McDonald's hamburgers: takoyaki, or octopus dumplings.

With more than 350 takeout stores in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan already, Sase's Gindaco chain is one of a barrage of fast-food companies bringing lowbrow Japanese chow to overseas markets. Its first U.S. store is scheduled to open in Los Angeles in 2007, and it hopes to open 20 stores in California by 2010.

"When I was a small boy, it was street food that made me feel good and warm inside," Sase said at a recent interview at the Tokyo headquarters of HotLand Corp., which runs Gindaco."

Mmmm~ Takoyaki! Too bad they don't sell it here now! I think we are down to just one Yoshinoya in the county, though

When I was back in March, the Chula Vista and Kearny Mesa locations were still going, did one of them close? They're still all over LA and Orange though.

I was really bummed when the Escondido and El Cajon ones closed though

Oops -- I had forgot about the Chula Vista store, since I am so rarely down there. So yes, still two Yoshinoya

One day while trying octopus for the first time (in a salad of some South American cuisine) I offered to share it around the table. A close friend looked solemn. "Sorry. I never eat any animal smart enough to do math."

OK then. I did some reading, and haven't eaten octopus since.

My former computer science instructor, Dr. Gary Berkowitz, wouldn't eat octopus sushi, on the grounds that "he didn't want to eat anything that could be smarter than him".

Intelligence, insmelligence. Having brains doesn't mean you aren't prey for something less elevated on the evolutionary ladder. Eventually, worms and mushrooms eat us. Chow down!! ^_^

I prefer the Greek version, myself, breaded and fried.
