Ah, email has six responses to my profile on a dating site, (all of them have been switched back to US, BTW)

Let's see.......

2 from "lonely women" wanting money to leave Nigeria and come see me in the US.....

1 from South Africa looking for a "Black, God-fearing Christian man" to marry her......

3 from Russia looking for "friends in the US". Funny, they all had the same profile, which was:

"Engineer cattle object give except%2E Hour feel fear forty magic%2E 316CA49A Center firm whistle due everything%2E Tea easily dozen present journey%2E

My Ideal Person:
Greatest call part careful government next will itself St%2E%2E Certainly wheat dig St%2E BD22C26A Sam voyage sort printed door%2E Doesn%27t rhyme I%27d applied mouth wooden wheat when alphabet%2E Clean habit very Bay massage wouldn%27t one battle ball%2E "

Umm, yeah, sure.....right.....

Is there anyone REAL on these stupid things?? Or are they all roach motels for the stupid and desperate????

No, they're not all 'roach motels for the stupid and desperate'.

You're on them -- and the exception proves the rule.

But to be fair, the other profiles aren't all as you say they are. Some of them are Aardvark toenail spelunking item by fifty neandrethal hemp. Orange duffer duodenum fsck placeholder insert name here; $username$ -su orgasmatron duffer Hillary Swank Geddes potholder ranked.

So, don't give up.

If you ARE interested in foreign women, I'd suggest Fillipinas...they are honest, sweet & hardworking. If you want to know more, I could refer you to several good places or my spouse would even have a personal contact or two... ^_^

(chuckle) I'm returning to SoCal from Qatar - and I'm starting to think most of the barbieoid women want Ken dolls......

And I'm decidely not a Ken doll.....at least I don't think I have Made by Mattel stamped on my butt.

Oh well. Maybe I can find someone real :-)

MOst Barbies do want Kens, and vice versa. It's jsut really hard to find people in such a land of plastic.. ha ha!

I mean the times I have tried looking, most men I meet don't even READ! How can you date a guy who doesn't read books? What would you talk about? LOL.

Of course, not ALL the men in Socal are plastic, I DO get asked out by men old enough to be my father alot for some reason... maybe I'm putting out a "Ensure" vibe?

::grin::

Agreed. I would like to find someone as much of a bookworm as I am.... :-)

As for age....being six months past my 40th, maybe I shouldn't comment on that problem.....(chuckle)

::laughs::.. I'm 36, and I get asked out by guys in their 60's... I just dont get it. At least someone thinks I am worth asking out... lol!

It's just that those of us who aren't plastic also aren't popular. So, we're still looking now that we're in our fifties or sixties. Or in my case, looking again. Eventually, we find a woman wise enough to decide that plastic doesn't hold up well, and then we finally get a mate. Or another mate. [shrug] Or we die of old age. As you pointed out, here in southern California, it's difficult to find a person of either gender who isn't plastic and has at least twice as mmuch intelligence as an ox. (He doesn't READ?! Even the cat reads, so she can decide which portions of the newspaper to chew up first. The parts I'd be most interested in, of course, which is how I infer the reading skills.)

I woudlnt say Not Popular, just maybe not 1st Rate Date Material. At least not with the plastic crowd.
I havent been plastic since, well ever actually. I was "That Weird Art Chick" in high school, and an art major in college. I never had problems finding smart interesting guys when I was younger, but as you age, I guess its harder to find people who arent already married, yanno? And with the single ones, they are either plastic (and so inferior in the personality dept in my opinion) or they are happy being single, or they just dont as k you out for one reason or another.
This is what happens when your too picky as a young adult.. lol!

I also don't know where to go to meet people I guess. I suck at the whole Finding People scene. My roomie and I moved here three years ago frm Seattle, and we are both still single, and havent dated much... sad huh?
So, any tips on where to meet guys in Socal with personalities? ::grins::

At the risk if picking nits, if the majority of people are plastic, and we're not popular with them, I'd have to say "unpopular" is still a good word. [wry smile]

I was the science/science fiction geek, myself. And it's always been easier to for the ladies to find interested/interesting guys than it is for us to find interested ladies. (I solved the "already married" problem by being polyamorous, but then one still has to find polyamorous marrieds. It's not right to interfere in the marriages of those who aren't.)

[bitter chuckle] Asking ME for the best places to meet people is a bit like asking the Pope which of the local bordellos is best. There's just no track record to support the question.

In general, for interesting people instead of the mundane hordes, I'd SPECULATE that science fiction conventions, art shows, lectures with either intermissions or Q&A sessions, the local planetarium, the Society for Creative Anachronisms, Rennaisance faires, BDSM demonstrations (perhaps not your personal cup of tea, but the people WILL be interesting), historical re-creations, technology shows/roll-outs, and the Pomona/Montclair/Ontario region in specific. [grin]

I had thought about looking into the SCA here, do you know how to get in contact with the locals around Anaheim?

Nope, but fortunately, I have friends who do. The off-the-top-of-his-head suggestion was to check gyldenholt.org.

Now that I can do. :-)

Anaheim is in the Barony of Gyldenholt, Kingdom of Caid.

I've got some friends around your neck of the woods (15 days before I'm back, yay!) as well

Feeling the same way on the whole "meeting people" thing. And a year in the Middle East has not helped matters much (chuckle)

Most of the ones I've found on dating sites though, seem to be like the marketing slogan of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation - i.e. "Your Plastic Pal that's Fun to Be With!"

Except more plastic and less fun.

1st- OMG Squeee!!! Cute Userpic!!!!
2nd- Yeah, I hear you. On the cyberdating, I do ok until we meet, then they are always plastic. What I think is amusing/sad is that I dont care what people look like for the most part. I've dated way cute guys, and really unatractive guys. To me its if they treat me nice or if they amuse me..lol. But men on online dating sites seem to expect Barbie. Uhm, HELLO.. Barbie woudlnt be ON that site, she would have a Ken already. Yanno? Or if Barbie were cyberdating, it would be for their money.
So, all I have met on those sites are men I have NOTHING in common with.

They need a Sci-FI geek dating site.
