(chuckle) Had a proud papa moment in Toys R Us yesterday.

They had foam swords for halloween.

Little Bit was watching an older boy swing one around blindly.

Finally she looked up at me and said: "He's swinging too hard. He's leaving himself wide open."

awwwwwww!!!

reminds me of other tales of renny/sca/amtgard/etc children... the son of an SCA king who, in kindergarten, didn't know the President of the U.S., but DID know who the king was (...his father!)
or the 4yo daughter of an amtgardian (SCA with boffer swords and no armor) who could recite runes and swing a double-headed metal axe like it _was_ a boffer weapon (Valkyrie, anyone?)

*gryn*

Obviously, you've raised her well, Patrick. Smart AND observant is, in Mhari's own words, A Good Thing.

LOL, sign that girl up for Youth Combat. Speaking of SCA, Dun Or Anniversary is the last event I'msure I'll be at for the foreseeable future. Do you think you'll be up?

One of my favorite SCA stories regarding kids:

Two young boys started hitting each other with plastic swords. One kid started beating on the other and the teacher had to intervene. The aggressive kid then started hitting the teacher with the sword. Kid is sent to principal, and father is summoned.

Father (looking sternly at son): "What did you hit the teacher with?"
Son (brightly): "Rising snap!"
Father (ruffles son's head while beaming): "That's my boy!"

(chuckle) Little Bit knows not to hit someone with a boffer (or any other form of toy sword), unless the other person is also armed accordingly.

Hint - if she offers you a sword, be prepared to defend yourself....

Piffle -- sounds like it's time to start fencing lessons for *real* -- or at the very least, kendo. (Yes, there is a kendo club in SD county.) Of course, you DO live one town over from a jian fa shu (chinese sword technique) teacher, you know... :: bats eyes innocently ::
