Don't people have ANYTHING better to do????

Apple's NY Fifth Avenue store is an 'insult to Islam'

"According to a report on The Middle East Media Research Institute, Apple's NY Fifth Avenue store has been slammed by "an Islamic website" as a "new insult to Islam".

The reason? Well, it resembles the Muslims' sacred Ka'ba, situated in the Masjid al-Haram mosque in Mecca:

The "Islamic website" claims that since the offending structure is known as the "Apple Mecca", and "contains bars selling alcoholic beverages", it constitutes "a blatant insult to Islam". The site accordingly calls on Muslims to spread the word in the hope that "Muslims will be able to stop the project".

Sadly, it's a bit late for that, since the store opened for business back in May. We do have some good news, though. As far as we're aware it's not called the "Apple Mecca", it does not serve alcoholic beverages, and neither Jack Straw nor Salman Rushdie work behind the counter.

All the nice Muslims I know are gonna ::headdesk:: at this news. Particularly the one in New York.

You can't trademark a CUBE for gosh sakes!

And did they hear the term "Mac Genius Bar" and assume it had something to do with Alcohol?

I will point out that due to the lack of URL or knowledge of who wrote the original piece, the "Islamic website" could be anyone from the Center for American/Islam Relations to al-Jazeera to "Smokey Abdul's JihadJournal-o-America Hatin'." Most likely it's the last option, some yahoo with a website who happens to be Muslim, just itching for a reason to scream. He sees a black cube in New York, says "that looks like..." and voila! A criticism of the latest atrocity of the secular American devils.

Have they issued a contract out for Steve Jobs?? ^_^

(Sorry, I forgot the term for the death warrant they issue for someone, like Salomon Rushide)

No, no fatwa against Steve Jobs yet.

Ironically, Steve Jobs is an Arab-American (His biological father is Syrian)

I wonder who else looked at the side-by-side photos and thought to themselves, "The Apple store is totally bigger than the Ka'ba. I mean, compare the people beside the mosque to the size of the cars in the background of the Apple store."

These comments about the "Apple Mecca" remind me a lot of the libel Our Mad Stalker sends my way now and then: it's imflammatory, it's intended to smear, and it doesn't have a gram of truth in it. "Let's just make something up about Apple; angry people never check their facts, so I'm perfectly safe!"

[shaking head] C.M. Kornbluth was right: stupid people should not be allowed to breed. Maybe we could make an IQ of 100-110 the minimum requirement and drive the average up?

Possible net hoax
