As much as I'm an internet junkie, there's a lot I miss from the BBS days. User meets, stuff like that.

And some of my best friends were made in those days. (smile)

I miss BBSes. The best part (oddly enough) was dialing in and spending twenty minutes just figuring out the commands, and every BBS used different software so you had to learn each and every one.

There was something really cool about he niche culture that went along with it. And the ASCII art logins. And x-modem protocol, and waiting an hour to download a 356K file... no wait...

Ah memories! Here it was the Benden Weyr BBS (officially ok'd by Anne McCaffrey, btw) The sysop was F'lar and I was co-sys. We had LOTS of fun GTs, Halloween & new years parties, not to mention the Benden room parties at Minicon and Icon, etc etc. When F'lar was gonna take it down the end of 1998, I physically took it over (to my house) and sysopped it into the next millenium before letting it fade away...

The computer nostalgia bug must be going around -- I was discussing this and related topics last week with [livejournal.com profile] duckflambe... telneting into the Minitel network; playing hundreds of hours of TradeWars; all the completely insane people on Fidonet and the original Well BBS... ::*sigh*:: It was a very different world.
