Okay, I'm allergic to soy in moderate to large amounts, and have to be careful how much of it I eat. But that's because my body can't break down the protein except to get rid of it as fast as possible.
That being said.......wow, someone's a bit crackers today.
(Granted, the source is WorldNetDaily, which makes the Weekly World News seem like a bastion of journalistic accuracy.)
A devil food is turning our kids into homosexuals
"Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality. That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products. (Most babies are bottle-fed during some part of their infancy, and one-fourth of them are getting soy milk!) Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because "I can't remember a time when I wasn't homosexual." No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can't remember a time when excess estrogen wasn't influencing them."
OH NO!!! SOYZ MAY GIVE YOU TEH GAYS!!!! WORSE, IT MAY SHRINK YOUR WEEWEE!!!!
(Head has gone all desky now)
On edit, Right Wing Watch also has their spin on the soyscare.....

Soy Intake and Breast Cancer (http://www.breastcancer.org/faq_risk_soy.html)
Psychology Today: How Healthy is Soy? (http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20060426-000001.html)
The first is in general agreement with the article you've cited, and cites its sources in all cases. The second recommends caution for women with or at risk of breast cancer in their use of soy products. The third takes the "nothing conclusive is known" view, and suggests soy use in moderation.
Now, I am not saying that "Soy is the Devil('s food)!" However, Americans do have a cultural history of going overboard with anything we think is "good for us". We probably do eat too much soy protein in our diets. We seem to have a tendency toward a quasi-religious faith in whatever it is we are currently advocating. This is probably due to the Madison Avenue advertising pushes that create such trends. However it comes about, it's not good.
Please try to be objective in your reading. Just because the politics of the messenger are to the right (or left) of your position doesn't mean there isn't some truth in their message...

Date: 2006-12-12 07:16 pm (UTC)What I was pointing fun at wasn't the possible link between soy and estrogen-analogs. Certainly I do not think soy is the miracle food some people make it out to be.
No, it was the supposed link between "comsumpion of soy" and homosexuality that I was poking fun at.

Date: 2006-12-12 07:24 pm (UTC)The first article I cited also warns of the developmental risks associated with soy estrogen analogs in children's formulae, they just don't headline it to score points with anyone.
Mind you, having read all of this, I'm now twitching at the idea of what it all means for the children involved. Brrr...
