Bahrain strips Tiberias Marathon winner of citizenship

To recap.

Kenyan-born marathon runner, who accepted Bahraini citizenship to compete for that countrty, becomes the first runner from an Arab country to compete. (Many of the Gulf states recruit athletes to compete for their countries, giving them citizenship and residence to do so. It's usually also accompied by a very public conversion to Islam that's sponsored by the Gulf state in question.)

He wins, making a statement at the end of the race on how "people should live together in harmony."

Two days later, Bahrain strips him of his citizenship.

To make matters worse, Kenya doesn't recognize dual-citizenship, so he gave up his Kenyan citizenship when he was recruited to move to Bahrain.

Poor guy just wanted to run in a marathon. As a result, he's now a man without a country.

but I was catching Roland up and decided to check in on this guy. Per his wikipedia entry: "On 21 January 2007 it was reported that Bahrain had reversed its decision to strip him of his Bahraini citizenship, and has been allowed to continue competing for the Gulf state."

Thought you'd like to know :-).
