My beloved [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo rocks :-)

How did I get so lucky to have her in my life? (and no, the answers are not eBay, boxtops, or a pony)

CrackerJack prizes? You two meeting is justification for switching to crap-arse prizes for the rest of us?

OMG, somebody else who remembers Green Stamps... do you remember going to the Stamp Store?

Indeed I do. The only one I remember from when I was a kid was in Hazelton, PA. My mom would collect her Green Stamps (I remember helping her paste them in the books), then heading off to the store in the summer (when we were up there in the Poconos during Summer vacation) to redeem them. I don't recall exactly when the stores stopped giving them out. I do remember that the Green Stamp Store itself eventually had a pretty thin selection of stuff left (or, at least, on display).

As an aside, one of the stores in Hazelton (no idea which one) gave Gold Stamps. This was a shock to me as a kid, since I only knew about Green Stamps, and had no idea there was any other kind! I don't remember ever trading those in for anything, though, or even if there was a store anywhere to do so.

sigh

Hard to believe it's been over 30 years since these things happened. Good grief, I'm turning into a nostalgic geezer!

That's right sonny, and to get to that there Green Stamp Store we had to go barefoot, uphill, against the wind, both ways! Didn't have to fancy Amazon or eBay, with door to door delivery, no sir! Can't have door-to-door delivery when there ain't no roads to your door, can you? G'wan, ya mollycoddled young whippersnapper! Leave me enjoy my ELO records in peace!

Because God finally got around to making me happy and, pleased with himself, he looked around and decided it was your turn next.

Sometimes, dude, you just get lucky. Or maybe it was the plastic rocket...

(Where's a Buddha icon when you need one? :)
