Since I haven't seen it on their website previously, just to let you know, the hotel rate is $169/night, and the hotel/resort is about 20 miles off the strip, so finding a cheaper place to stay will be difficult (especially since it's fourth of July in Vegas).

Just checked their site again... apparently they have convinced the hotel to lower the rate... to $159/night.

And yet, for some strange reason people still come here in droves...

That's a REALLY lovely hotel, right up against the mountains. (I used to run a 10-day event there every month for the AU company I worked for.) It's cooler on that side of the valley. Granted, in July, "cooler" is relative.

Also, FYI: that location is 20 minutes from the Strip. There's plenty to do over there though.

Well I intend to do both, if you're looking for roommates.

Don't fool yourself, who needs to go outdoors in Las Vegas? Longer than momentarily anyway.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas. The question really becomes do you think you are really going to leave the hotel? Bus service in Las Vegas sucks rocks unless you are on the strip. Walking in the high summer during the day time out doors isn't something I would recommend to someone who isn't used to heat. At least it's not as humid as Doha was.

If you are looking to get out and look around, I suggest the Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, and Mt Charleston. The desert can be a beautiful if stark place. And it is a different sort of desert than you will find in parts of the middle east.

Anywho, say hi to my mom if you go there! :)

Hmmm, triple digit temperatures but then it's a con so why go outside the hotel?? ^_^
