Though I'm sure that a month or so later, Gonzales will walk back into the Department of Justice saying he "did not recall" signing a resignation letter, or even what a resignation letter was. Besides which, resignation letters are archaic....
US Attorney General Gonzales resigns
'Alberto Gonzales, the nation's first Hispanic attorney general, announced his resignation Monday, driven from office after a wrenching standoff with congressional critics over his honesty and competence.
Republicans and Democrats alike had demanded his departure over the botched handling of FBI terror investigations and the firings of U.S. attorneys, but President Bush had defiantly stood by his Texas friend for months until accepting his resignation last Friday."
Considering how much this administration likes to wait until fridays to report bad news, the fact this is on a monday is rather curious. Oh well, I'm sure he'll get the Medal of Freedom anyway.
Rumour has it that the top choice to replace Gonzales is DHS head Michael "Skeletor" Chertoff. Oh, yeah, right. Of course, just to twist the knife, Bush could announce Chertoff's nomination on the anniversary of Hurricaine Katerina.........
