Cute, Cuddly, and horribly wrong.
Apr. 24th, 2003 12:23 pmOkay, after being massively weirded out by my first exposure to "Happy Tree Friends," I came to these conclusions.
A) There are some people there with deep-seated hatreds of the Care Bears.
B) There are some real sick puppies out there.
C) Sometimes, this is a good thing.
First off, this is not a cartoon for children. Unless you have kids with really sick senses of humour.
Happy Tree Friends is a glurge of sickeningly sweet, cutey-pie, luvy-dovy cartoon characters of the type that makes "Hello Kitty" and the like look like biker gangs from hell. They're all in pastel colours with little heart-shaped noses and big happy eyes, and they're always so happy and cheerful and friendly. The sole redemming fact is that the characters in HTF usually end up getting killed. Horribly and messily killed at that. Sam Pecinpah and Clive Barker blood on the walls killed.
angelique69 mentioned it sounded like "Rocky and Bullwinkle". Well, Happy Tree Friends does have a dim-witted moose and a flying squirel, but they're not major characters. And Rocky and Bullwinkle never created this much of a body count.
Episodes are available for download at the Happy Tree Friends website. Be warned, it's pretty sick and twisted. And the theme music is a major earworm.

I suck at Photoshop.
