This is the "Masonic Sweater Store" I saw in Speed Trap South Bend, Washington

The owner of this shop said it was a former Opera House. The mark above the door says that Opera wasn't the only use for this building.

Century old and very beautiful.

Looks like a MASONIC opera store! Did you stop? I'd be interested in hearing what the inside is like...

Most of the inside was walled off, I get the feeling the current owner lives there and she closed off most of it. The part that was open had beautiful tin celings though.

It looks derelict to me.

It's in use as a hand-knitted sweater / shawl / hat store, so it's not derelict.

Nice building really

From photos I've seen, Masonic Hall/Opera House hybrids weren't at all uncommon. The second Masonic hall in Monrovia was in the upper story of the Opera House on Myrtle, and the hybrid photo I saw of it was from 1898.

Which would make perfect sense to me. (And matches what I heard about other small town lodges during this time period.

I just found it funny she mentioned the opera house aspect when the other aspect was rather obvious.

Oh, and Shana Tova. :-)
