Been watching "MS Gundam 0083 - Stardust Memory" over the last few days. And it pegged something that, as much as I like Gundam, bugs me about the "Good Guys".

Namely that they are more angsty and emo than a cutting convention sponsored by Hot Topic.

How the hell does Zeon (or ZAFT, or OZ, or whatever), keep LOSING to these clowns??

Oh, I have no illusions about why they lost the One-Year War. Infighting in the royal family did them in. You can see this a bit better in the series. Now that I'm done with the doctorate, I can start watching my way through the various Gundams. Play along at home!

Infighting in the royal family, and the fact that the various Neo-Zeon groups that rose afterwards were only interested in their own personal agendas.

Delaz was only interested in refighting (or avenging) the One Year War

Haman Karn was trying to play both sides against the middle

As for puppetmaster Char Aznable, I believe we've gone into HIS character flaws and arrogance several times before.

So in a nutshell, the short-sightedness and arrogance of the people leading Zeon have been what failed Zeon. Since the Feddies always start out with the same common sense as aquarium gravel, it's the only reason why Zeon keeps losing to those idiots.

You see the same thing in most of the other series and the various Zeon and Char clones.

They wouldn't have had time for infighting if they'd done their blitz right the first time, at least not until the Federation was down for the count. I blame the script and the meddling kids.
