The word for today -
Feb. 8th, 2002 11:06 amPolyamory, (alt - polyamoury) From the root words "Poly", meaning many, and "Amor", meaning love. The ability to be romantically involved with more than one other person. This may or may not involve being sexually involved with them, (It's polyamory, not polyfuckery). This can take many shapes, from being in a committed relationship or marriage with one primary partner, and having a secondary partner outside of that, to being in a committed relationship with two or more primary partners.
A three-person committed relationship is a triad. A four-person is a tetrad. There's also been attempts at the line or group marriages shown in Robert Heinlein's books.
An FAQ for the usenet newsgroup alt.polyamory can be found at www.polyamory.org LiveJournal also has a "Polyamory Success Story" community at Kith and Kin.
Polyamory is *NOT* swinging. While some swingers might also be poly, not all polys are swingers.
I'm currently in a MFM relationship. By this I mean I'm in a relationship with my primary partner, (Camin), and I'm a co-spice with her other s/o, StarChaser. I'm not involved as anything more than a friend with Star though. I have the option to be involved with other people though, as long as pre-defined rules and guidelines are met, and communication between all involved is kept open. Idealy, those other people are people my primary approves of and trusts. (She's very worried about my getting hurt again.)
Of course, the problem I have in *finding* someone is that either TNG (Terminal Nice Guy) syndrome strikes, or someone pegs me as being Gay, and when they find out I'm not, I'm so far into the "friends" category that getting romantically involved with me is unthinkable. (SIGH!!!!)

....how many members of my family do I have to hit over the head with a two-by-four to get them to figure out that I'm not Gay. Poly, yes. Pagan, yes. Gay, no.
Come on. After hearing all my female friends bitch about their boyfriends at one point or another, why on earth would I want one????
I'm tolerant, soft-spoken, and it seems this equals Gay in my family's eyes. (sigh)
It's not the accusation itself that bothers me, it's that nobody had the courtesy to *ASK* me.
