I'm amused by this quote from the UK House of Commons debates for 21 June 2005, and is the maiden speech of Mr. Jamie Reed, MP, Copeland (Labour) (the bill being debated is a religious rights bill)

"Mr. Jamie Reed (Copeland) (Lab): I crave the indulgence of the House in interrupting such an important and enjoyable debate to deliver my maiden speech. Furthermore, as the first Jedi Member of this place, I look forward to the protection under the law that will be provided to me by the Bill. I pay tribute to the hon. Member for Dewsbury (Mr. Malik) for his convincing and searing testimony in support of the proposed legislation. It will be a privilege to serve alongside him."

~Today Is Here~

Today is here, as fresh as rain,
No given reasons, hidden pain.
A new book opens, what is this fear,
Footsteps uneasy, the path unclear.
Familiar faces, they are no more,
Feelings exposed, emotions raw.
The past has gone, today is here,
Tell me reasons, my heart feels sore.
Words are cheap, our actions speak,
What we give, we shall one day reap.
Memories flooding, wrapped in love,
Fly me home, on the wings of a dove.
Please hold me tight, help me see the light,
Energies weak, no need to fight.
Sit awhile, turn the page,
Don't let this sadness, turn to rage.
Feel the moment, not the past,
Let memories linger, forever last.
This storm will pass, guide us to the sun,
With new beginnings, help us to carry on.

Garry Trudeau, the man who writes “Doonesbury”, is donating all his proceeds from the sale of his book “The Long Road Home: One Step at a Time” to the Fisher House Foundation, to wounded troops and their families.

‘Doonesbury’ comes to aid of Fisher House (Stars and Stripes)

Trudeau is donating all his proceeds from the sale of his newly released book “The Long Road Home: One Step at a Time” to the Fisher House Foundation. Also, Andrews McMeel Publishing, the book’s publisher, is contributing 10 percent of its take from the book to Fisher House.

Considering that the $9.95 book has been out less than a month and already has sold thousands of copies, the financial benefit for the Fisher House could be substantial.

Fisher House offers family members of wounded troops temporary housing at little or no cost during their loved one’s hospitalization."

It's interesting to note that the foreward to this book is written by Sen. John McCain, (R -Arizona)
