Interesting story on how the US Air Force could have won a Nobel Prize........except for classification

Strange but True

In a nutshell, a USAF Officer, 20 years career, who had been a navigator and later went into radar, was at Clear AFB in 1967, and found a fluctuating signal. He logged it, next day found it four minutes early, which indicated a celestial source. He looked, found several more, some of which were fluctuating or pulsating.

He asked what he should do, was told it was not in their mission, so the sources were noted as background and they went back to normal duties.

A few months later, he saw 1968 issues of Nature - which detailed the recent discovery of pulsars.........

To make matters even more amusing?? Some DEW stations were finding pulsar signs as far back as 1964! All classified as not to give away DEW abilities.

The NeoCon "Family Security Matters" think tank (on edit, a front group of the Center for Security Policy) published an article on August 3rd. It's been scrubbed from their site, but Google Cache has a copy here of the original page

Some of the "highlights":

"The wisest course would have been for President Bush to use his nuclear weapons to slaughter Iraqis until they complied with his demands, or until they were all dead. Then there would be little risk or expense and no American army would be left exposed. But if he did this, his cowardly electorate would have instantly ended his term of office, if not his freedom or his life."

I was reading the biography of Philip Atkinson, the "contributing editor" at Family Security Matters who wrote that piece of tripe I commented on earlier.

I think it's safe to say this guy is not only a few dozen french fries short of a happy meal, but is missing the burger, drink, AND little toy surprise as well.

His biography reads like someone who was bullied as a child, and grew up wanting to be a bigger bully than those who tormented him. Not to mention a major snob.

Family Security Matters seems to be pulling down all his writings, but here's another one from wingbat central:

The appearance of “terrorists” is in fact an unpleasant confirmation of Professor Arnold Toynbee’s 1952 prediction that barbarian war bands would attack our declining civilization. FSM Contributing Editor Philip Atkinson offers a realistic view of our precarious predicament.

Bears eat man at beer festival

" BELGRADE, Serbia (Reuters) -- A 23-year old Serb was found dead and half-eaten in the bear cage of Belgrade Zoo at the weekend during the annual beer festival.

The man was found naked, with his clothes lying intact inside the cage. Two adult bears, Masha and Misha, had dragged the body to their feeding corner and reacted angrily when keepers tried to recover it.

"There's a good chance he was drunk or drugged. Only an idiot would jump into the bear cage," zoo director Vuk Bojovic told Reuters.

Local media reported that police found several mobile phones inside the cage, as well as bricks, stones and beer cans."
