Dear Indomie -

This is one of those letters I wish I didn't have to write. But people grow and change.......

I remember finding you in the Ralph's grocery stores in the late 80's early 90's, when you first explored the US market. I fell for your Mi Goreng goodness, and may have ended up eating way too much of it.

And then you left the direct US market, and for years I was lost, missing your fake fried noodles, and the mysterious kecap sweet soy. Imagine my joy to find you in the local 99 Ranch market! More than that, it was the full Indonesian version, with spices that must be treated with respect. Not the watered down for American tastes version.

For years, a box of Indomie lived in my pantry, and I shared "the world's most addictive ramen" with family and friends. 2005 I went to Doha, Qatar, and not only found you there waiting for me, but new flavours and cup noodles I'd never encountered. My favourite comfort food, for when I was away from home.

But people grow and change. Several months ago I noticed another package, Mie Sedaap Mi Goreng from Wing Foods . Another Indonesian ramen. Curious I got a couple packets. A few months later, when the grocery store was out of Indomie, I tried these two packets, thinking them no more than a pale imitation of your noodlely goodness, good for emergency ramen, nothing more...

I was wrong. From the moment I opened the package and found no less than five sachets, oil, chili *sauce*, not powder, kecap, seasoning, and dried onions, (which I could discard easily, as I'm not very fond of onions).

The chili sauce was stronger than the powder, but what I found in that bowl.....sighs in contentment.

I read that Wings Food has taken marketshare from you in Indonesia. I hate to say it, I can see why. And I expect it will become more popular as it becomes more available.

Don't get me wrong Indomie, I still like you and will always enjoy a bowl of your noodly goodness. But I am sad to say, you may no longer be the world's most addictive ramen. Mie Sedaap may just have claimed that title from you.

More reasons why I'm an ex-Catholic......

Educated Catholics have sown dissent and confusion in the Church, claims bishop

"Bishop O'Donoghue, who has recently published a report on how to renew Catholicism in Britain, argued that mass education has led to "sickness in the Church and wider society".

"What we have witnessed in Western societies since the end of the Second World War is the development of mass education on a scale unprecedented in human history - resulting in economic growth, scientific and technological advances, and the cultural and social enrichment of billions of people's lives," he said.

"However, every human endeavor has a dark side, due to original sin and concupiscence. In the case of education, we can see its distortion through the widespread dissemination of radical scepticism, positivism, utilitarianism and relativism.

Reminds me of my chatchism classes and being chewed out for daring to question the *why* of something rather than blindly accepting it. (St. Rose of Lima, Simi Valley CA, late 70's)

Cardinal Stafford: Obama is 'apocalyptic'

"“For the next few years, Gethsemane will not be marginal. We will know that garden,” Stafford said, comparing America’s future with Obama as president to Jesus’ agony in the garden. “On November 4, 2008, America suffered a cultural earthquake.”

Cardinal Stafford said Catholics must deal with the “hot, angry tears of betrayal” by beginning a new sentiment where one is “with Jesus, sick because of love.”

The lecture, hosted by the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, pertained to Humanae Vitae, a papal encyclical written by Pope Paul VI in 1968 and celebrating its 40 anniversary this year."

Saw a 2-liter bottle of Pomegranate 7-up.

I wonder if each glass you drink means you have to spend another month in the underworld.

Someone who took exception to my political blogging googled my name and found my Rebel Legion ID pictures, and immediately responded with "look at what this nutcase is wearing, he's playing dress up!"

My response? I laughed and pointed out that was an older outfit and my newer ones were much better, oh and BTW they forgot the 501st and SCA costumes as well.

And if the only counter they had to my comments was to attack my hobbies, their opinions must be pretty weak sauce indeed.

*chuckle*
